23/11/2009 - A mostly impressive weekend was enjoyed by the boys. Match reports below. Finally, a big thank you to the parents who helped out with the stall over the two days raising money for the children. ******* WANTED ******* Currently we are looking for extra reinforcements to put a finish to our squads for the upcoming season. Sunday 22nd November, 2009 Team Oasis 0-1 NWLL The wait, unfortunately, for a Team Oasis win (or a draw) goes on for another week. It was too long ago that these boys experienced a win on a Sunday. Despite all of the hard work and efforts over the last couple of months, that result just will not come. On the upside, there were more positive signs that a result isn't too far away. Other than a bright opening few minutes, it took our boys until the second-half to really find their feet in this game. Once they did, they can count themselves a little unfortunate not to have gotten a draw. In the latter stages, especially, the pressure they placed Netherley under deserved a goal at least. However, doing so for less than half the game was, ultimately, not enough. If the belief and desire was there from beginning to end, they could have won. Similar to the Prescot game earlier this season, Team Oasis had chances to score whilst not exactly being carved open regularly by their opponents. Matty fashioned a glorious opportunity for himself early on, only to be denied by a good save. Towards the end, the ball found itself in and around NWLL's box an awful lot, but there just wasn't a decisive final touch by any Oasis player. Unlucky, you've got to keep the belief, boys, that result WILL eventually come. Sunday 22nd November, 2009 Woolton Sharks 0-3 Oasis This game could have been a potential 'banana-skin' for the boys when you take into account the conditions the match was played in. Playing on a small, boggy pitch on a miserable November morning against a side in Woolton Sharks, who will give anyone a game, could have seen other teams drop priceless points. Not this team. The confidence and togetherness that is running throughout the entire team is untouchable. The boys simply rolled their sleeves up and went about their jobs in the only way they know how. Battling the conditions, the football on display from Oasis was still excellent. At times it was a hard slog but they still attempted to play their own football. The all-important first goal was slid home at the back-post by James as a result of a great pull-back from David. A contentious moment followed after Lucas scrambled an effort, seemingly over the line, goalwards only for the referee to determine it never crossed the line. Lucas wasn't to be denied as he registered a goal shortly after the break. The result was secured via a Ben header/face from a corner. In the end it was comfortable with no way through for the Sharks which was a reward for the brilliant defensive display, as well as the good attacking play. Excellent attitude, boys! Saturday 21st November, 2009 River Alt 1-9 Mossley Hill Athletic The Athletic boys went one better than their squad mates by recording nine goals. It actually took longer than usual for the boys to open the scoring, but the identity of the scorer came as no surprise with Lucas grabbing his customary goal after beating his defender for pace. Lucas became provider for the second goal, returning a pass to David who slotted home confidently. James added the next goal, which was to be the first of a treble, following a near-post corner. River Alt, despite working tirelessly throughout, just couldn't stop the flow of goals with David completing a treble of his own. The final two goals were a just reward for the efforts Ben had put in. It became somewhat of a family war between Ben and Lucas in an attempt to see who could score the most, with Ben coming out on top in the end. Another good performance, boys, you all worked really hard for each other. Saturday 21st November, 2009 Mossley Hill 8-0 NewPark Panthers The first game of the day saw a vintage display by Mossley Hill. The boys attacked from start to finish, racking up a brilliant eight goals. The first two goals were scored by the impressive Max B, coming off the left flank to complete eye-catching moves. Matty added his name to the scoresheet, again following a delightful move, by striking into the top corner. Mossley continued to play nice football, with further goals by Ellio, Charlie with two and Matty completing his hat-trick. The most pleasing aspect of the game was, despite the urge to go for goal after goal towards the end, the passing remained to a high standard and every player was looking to create opportunities for one another. Good performance - best for passing this season. Well done everyone. Sunday 15th November, 2009 Warner Vale 0-8 Oasis The result was never in doubt as Oasis charged out of the blocks, not allowing Warner a chance to settle. Within a couple of minutes the deadlock was broken courtesy of some nice footwork and a cool finish from the edge of the box by Captain 'Fantastic' Lewis. James soon made it two-nil, slotting into the corner, following a good move. It was all Oasis, wave after wave of attacks rained down on Warner's goal as Ellis made it three after shrugging off a defender before coolly placing it past the 'keeper. Goal number four owed a lot to new-boy Jensen, which saw him go on a mazy run beating three or four players before David struck home the loose ball. Lewis completed the scoring for the first-half shortly afterwards. The boys threatened to run riot yet again after the break but would only add a further three goals - Jensen grabbed a well-deserved first goal with a sublime effort and James got a second goal following good work by Ellis. The loudest cheer of the game was saved for the final goal, scored by man-mountain Sean. Free-kick ten yards inside Warner's half, and Sean let fly (with a little help via a deflection) to record his first-ever goal for the club. All of the boys were there to congratulate him which showed just how good the team spirit is. Superb! Sunday 8th November, 2009 Team Oasis 2-4 Oasis (CUP) What a cup tie! This was everything a cup tie should be - committed, competitive, quality, end-to-end and, best of all, played within a good atmosphere. It was unfortunate that the two sides had to meet so early in the competition, as this game would have made for a great semi or final even! It was abundantly clear who wanted the game more early on as Team Oasis flew into challenges and pinned Oasis back for long periods. The team scoring the opening goal came as somewhat of a surprise as Jared prodded home for Oasis following a floated free-kick from the right. Team Oasis weren't behind for too long, though, as they wrestled back possession in Oasis' half leading to Matty able to slot the ball past Christian confidently. The half ended all-square but it was clear who had been the stronger team. The same pattern continued at the beginning of the second-half, and Team Oasis found themselves in front following good work by Max, leaving Charlie Jolly the simplest tasks of tapping into an empty net. Oasis were in desperate need of some inspiration to find a way back into the match and did they find it? Only in the most spectacular way. Lucas found himself clear of the defence, a good distance out, only to be caught up but that didn't matter as he stepped inside and unleashed an almighty shot soaring over Thomas' head. That was the catalyst for an Oasis fightback. The turn-around was completed as Ellis flicked home following a goal-mouth scramble. Then it was left to Lucas to tap in to seal an impressive comeback when their backs were against the wall. The pressure in the latter stages had proved to be too much for Team Oasis despite a brilliant performance. On another day, Team Oasis could easily have won this game. Hard luck - just need to play like that every week. Well done to Oasis for finding a way to come back when not on top of their game. Well done everyone, it was a great game to watch! Saturday 31st October, 2009 River Alt 1-6 Mossley Hill A confident performance saw Mossley notch half a dozen goals against a competitive River Alt side. The passing we know the boys are capable of was once again on show, repeatedly opening up the opposition's defence. The opening goal was scored by Charlie following good work down the right-hand side. Joe and Matty, with a brace, put the game beyond any doubt, and Ellio sealed the win with a double of his own a day after his birthday. Good win. Saturday 31st October, 2009 Mossley Hill Athletic 8-1 Fur & Feather Apologies for the belated report, but there was trouble with the website. Anyhow, the scoresheet could have read double figures again only for the brilliance of the opposition's goalkeeper. Although he conceded eight goals, he was probably still a strong contender for Man of the Match. He denied our boys on countless occasions. The goals that did manage to defeat him were scored by the usual suspects. Another hat-trick for Lucas, two apiece for Ellis and David, and one from Jared. Comfortable once again. Sunday 25th October, 2009 Recs Roby 1-7 Oasis To cap off a fantastic weekend, the Oasis boys picked up where they left off yesterday by putting Recs Roby to the sword, hitting them for seven goals. Similar to yesterday, the team were 3-0 up within the first five minutes with Lucas notching all three goals. His first goal coming after two attempts had been squandered from underneath the crossbar. Goals two and three followed very quickly, the third being a nice deft header from a Lewis cross-shot. Everyone was clearly hungry for goals as Oasis continued to storm forward with Lucas grabbing goal number four for the day. Lewis scored his second goal in as many weeks, whilst Ellis added his name to the scoresheet with a prodded goal. The best goal was saved until last. Connor found Lucas, who unleashed a rocket into the top corner with his left foot, leaving the goalkeeper helpless. Recs Roby managed to finally beat stand-in 'keeper James, who performed excellently all game, to restore a little pride. The performance was not to be tarnished, as the boys continued to try and play their football in difficult conditions. Another convincing win for Oasis - well done! Saturday 24th October, 2009 Marshalls Barkhill 0-11 Mossley Hill Athletic The Athletic side were in rampant, red-hot form today. No team would have stopped them. They were utterly relentless in their demolition of rivals Marshalls. Within the first two minutes, the score read 3-0 after a flurry of attacks sent our opponents into a state of shock. James bagged two and Lucas notched another goal to add to a very lengthy and, seemingly, never-ending list (two more were added for a hat-trick). By half-time, it was six of the truly best. The pick of the bunch being a fine strike by David which brought an end to a fantastically crafted move. Five more goals flew past the Marshalls' 'keeper after the break, and it could have been even more only for a combination of poor finishing and brilliant goalkeeping. David grabbed his second, Ellis got one, Ben curled in a free-kick, and Matty, appearing against the club which desperately tried to keep him during the summer, came on in the final stages to bag a couple of goals to show Marshalls what they're missing. Superb, boys! Play like that every game, it'll be hard for anyone to stop you. Saturday 24th October, 2009 Mossley Hill 6-3 Chelwood Rangers Mossley were right out of the blocks in the early game with Charlie poking home to open the scoring after only a few minutes. It was soon two-nil following a good passage of play down the left started from a Thomas roll-out. Three passes later, Matty finished with aplomb in the corner. The boys were playing some decent football and led comfortably. The second half proved to be a much closer contest, though, as Chelwood showed determination to keep within touching distance of Mossley. Two quick-fire goals flew past Thomas but, sandwiched in between, Joe had made it three with a cool finish. Max B added to the total from distance, but yet again Chelwood responded with a goal of their own. Another from Max B and a penalty converted by Max H made the final scoreline 6-3. An enjoyable game to watch played in the right manner by both sides. Well done everyone. Sunday 18th October, 2009 Marshalls 2-0 Team Oasis To say this team needs a bit of luck is an understatement. How Team Oasis did not convert at least one of the numerous chances created in the first period, no-one will ever know. And to rub salt into the wounds, Marshalls managed to nick two cheap goals - the second goal coming courtesy of an attempted clearance which struck a Marshalls player and ricocheted in. Team Oasis had been the better side up until then, playing some decent football at times but just lacking a finishing touch in front of goal. A challenge stood in front of the boys for the second-half, yet there was to be no comeback. A lot of huffing and puffing was the best we could muster, and could have potentially let more goals in as Marshalls hit us on the counter-attack more than once. The match was summed up when an effort looped onto the bar, dropped down practically on the line...two Oasis players waiting to pounce only for the ball to, somehow, be cleared to safety by Marshalls. It just wasn't to be our day, unfortunately. Keep the heads up, boys, it will come eventually. Don't lose the belief! Sunday 18th October, 2009 Prescot Cables Panthers 3-3 Oasis The top two in the league went head-to-head and treated all to a thrilling contest which saw a brilliant fightback by our boys. Prescot took an early lead with a soft goal, and Oasis looked like they were still in bed. Slowly, chances began to be created and it was almost all-square when David struck a post with the ball somehow rolling along the line back into the 'keeper's hands. It wasn't too much longer before the score was level following a shot by Lewis which took a big deflection off a defender. Prescot re-took the lead from the penalty spot and Oasis trailed at the interval. Things got worse just after the break as we were now staring at a two-goal deficit, as Prescot made it three from a corner. To our boys' credit they rolled their sleeves up and went about clawing their way back into the match. Chance after chance rained down on Prescot's goal, and it was living a very charmed life with efforts cleared off the line and the goalkeeper producing unbelievable saves. Great work by Lucas set up David to get one back with ten to go. With time running out, Lucas scrambled the deserved equaliser from an Ellis free-kick. Even after that there was enough time for Oasis to almost snatch a winner but, yet again, were denied by a world-class save and goalline clearance. A great game to watch and the character to come back twice was brilliant. Well done, boys, you were unlucky not to win it in the end! Saturday 17th October, 2009 Mossley Hill Athletic 3-1 NWLL A thoroughly assured and composed display saw Mossley claim a well-deserved victory over a good Netherley side. The opponents were quickest out of the blocks, though, causing minor problems within the first couple of minutes. After that sluggish start, Mossley began to assert their dominance by pinning NWLL back in their own half for a sustained period of pressure which resulted in the opening goal. Following a run and shot by David, guess who was there to bundle in the rebound...? Lucas was quickest to react, and we had the lead. The boys were playing with confidence, creating chance after chance until the half-time whistle blew. Shooting uphill after the break couldn't stop the boys from dominating, as Lucas was gifted a second goal following a mix-up in NWLL's defence. Netherley threatened to stage a fightback by grabbing a good goal on the break, then went close again seconds later. The fightback was short-lived, thankfully, as Ben won a penalty which David planted high into the net. The boys saw the rest of the game out confidently to secure a brilliant win. Excellent performance, boys! Sunday 11th October, 2009 Team Oasis 0-1 Prescot Cables Despite having no substitutes to try and alter the course of the game and playing a good side, Team Oasis gave a really good account of themselves and were unlucky on the day to not at least earn a draw. The boys can be proud of their efforts following last week's heavy setback. On another day, they could have won this game. The majority of the first-half saw Team Oasis defending their goal bravely whilst creating a couple of half-chances of their own. The deadlock was broken mid-way through the half, though, in strange fashion. What looked like a mis-hit cross eventually ended up in the back of the net despite Harry's best efforts to clear the ball. Again, restricting Prescot to few chances after the break, Team Oasis almost levelled on a number of occasions. First through Max's flicked attempt, then Matty poked at the 'keeper and, finally, Joe was superbly denied from a free-kick by a great save. It just wasn't to be, sadly, and the game ended in defeat. Well played, boys. Need a bit of luck next week. Sunday 11th October, 2009 Oasis 6-1 Kingsley United Oasis maintained their 100% winning start to the season with a handsome victory over Kingsley. This was achieved despite going a goal down inside the first five minutes. You would never have thought they were a goal down, as there was no panic whatsoever. A great flowing move down the left-hand side resulted in Lucas (him, again!) knocking in the deserved equaliser. By the time we reached the break, a one-goal deficit had been turned into a two-goal lead following a low strike by James and another poacher's goal from Lucas. Oasis threatened to run riot after the break, but the score was restricted to six. Lucas completed yet another hat-trick, whilst Ellis curled in a beauty of a free-kick and Ben also helped himself to a goal from a set-piece. Some of the football at times was devastating, and this was a comprehensive win which meant Oasis stayed top of the table. Excellent performance again, boys. Saturday 10th October, 2009 Fur & Feather 0-4 Mossley Hill The result of this game was never really in doubt as, from the start, you sensed Mossley would be too strong for their opponents. That turned out to be case as Matty claimed two goals, plus another from Max B, all-but wrapped up the game in the first-half. This meant the boys could relax and begin to play some good football in the second period which saw countless chances created, especially Ellio who struck the woodwork time after time. He was not to be denied his goal, though, as he worked himself enough room to place his shot in the corner away from the 'keeper. The scoreline probably should've been higher but, in the end, the boys played well and fully dseserved their victory. Well played, lads. Good result! Saturday 10th October, 2009 Woolton Wolves 2-2 Mossley Hill Athletic From the very first whistle, Mossley never quite got to grips with this game. Woolton's direct approach to the game made it difficult for our boys. Mossley were punished early on after the defence had failed to clear a loose ball in the box, but were soon back on level terms following a too-hot-to-handle strike from distance by David. The first-half ended with not many other clear chances created at either end. Only a couple of minutes into the half, again, saw Woolton reclaim the lead from a corner. The boys probed for an equaliser but it seemed like it was never going to come despite heavy pressure. Eventually it arrived from our own corner, as Ben struck a post before Lucas prodded home the rebound to make it two-apiece. Unlucky, boys, but there will be days like this through the season. Just make sure there's not too many of them! Sunday 4th October, 2009 Team Oasis 1-7 Oasis The form book suggested there was only going to be one winner in this game, and so it turned out to be accurate. Right from the first whistle, only one side looked like they were going to win. Oasis' players had the bit between their teeth from the off and quickly amassed a big lead. The pace at which they attacked proved to be too much for Team Oasis' defence to handle. Strikes by Ellis, Lucas (again!), James, David (two) and an unlucky own goal sealed an emphatic victory - all in the first-half. Strong words were had with Team Oasis to try and inspire some sort of comeback in the second period. To their credit, they rolled their sleeves up and went about taking the fight to Oasis after the break. In the end the score read 1-7 but, despite a big win, there were no tears, tantrums or wild celebrations - everybody enjoyed the occasion proven by the birthday bumps (and cake) being handed out by all to Ben and Lucas. Well done everyone for playing the game in the right spirit and battling until the end! Saturday 3rd October, 2009 Mossley Hill 4-1 Marshalls Barkhill The first 'local derby' of the season saw Mossley exert their dominance over Marshalls Barkhill with a fine victory. In a first-half littered with chances at either end, it was Mossley who led through goals courtesy of Ellio and Matty, whose effort against his former team gave Mossley a comfortable advantage which they never looked like surrendering. Two further goals would follow after the break. Firstly, an unfortunate own goal from a Max B corner and then Joe capitalised on a rare mistake by the Marshalls' goalkeeper who, up until then, had been in excellent form to keep the score respectable. Marshalls scrambled a consolation effort towards the end, but it wasn't enough to dent a decent performance by Mossley Hill who quickly returned to winning ways after a setback last weekend. Well done, now build on this win. Saturday 3rd October, 2009 Mossley Hill Athletic 6-1 Alder Lions The first-half of this game saw some quite simply breath-taking football on display from the Mossley boys, who were in red-hot form. The boys entered the break leading 4-1 after some truly wonderful goals. Alder, quite simply, could not stop the Mossley juggernaut. Every time they attacked you sensed a goal. It was one free-flowing, rapid attack after another. Goals from Lucas (two), James, and Ellis were expertly put away to put the game beyond doubt before half-time. The second-half saw a much closer contest, but David and Ben would go on to put further distance between the two sides to make it six of the best. Keep that up, and no-one will be able to stop you, boys. Excellent! Sunday 27th September, 2009 Team Oasis 0-2 Woolton Wolves Following on from the impressive victory against Kingsley, good things were expected from Team Oasis, but they never arrived. Only one or two shots of any real note were sent towards Woolton's goal, which is quite simply not enough. Two silly goals were presented to Woolton on a plate for them, and there was to be no fightback from Team Oasis. The boys put the effort in, there was just no cohesion or unity as we saw last week. Never mind, we shall move on from this episode and look to improve on this performance next week. Unlucky, lads. Sunday 27th September, 2009 NWLL 1-3 Oasis Amidst all the controversy that surrounded the match from the start, our boys handled it well and managed to secure a vital win. Oasis took full control in the first-half punishing Netherley with two quickfire goals midway through the half. First, David converted a cross-shot from Ben, and then Lucas continued his magnificent form of scoring in every game he has played by turning his man before rifling a shot high past the 'keeper. It could have been more before the break only for superb goalkeeping. There was a little scare after the interval with Netherley pulling a goal back courtesy of a 'disputable' free-kick. There was to be no comeback, though, as Ellis cushioned number three at the back-post following great work by Lucas. Christian, Ben and Sean had their hands full towards the end as the game became scrappy but they dealt with everything thrown at them. Superb, boys! Saturday 26th September, 2009 Prescot Cables Rangers 1-5 Mossley Hill Athletic This turned out to be another impressive performance from the Athletic side. Lots of good passing proved too much for Prescot to handle in the end. Connor finally found the back of the net following some really hard work. He would go on to get a brace, as would Lucas who steered in two fabulous headers. David rounded the scoring off with a fierce strike inside the near post. Well done, boys, keep it going. Saturday 26th September, 2009 NWLL 3-1 Mossley Hill Mossley came out of the blocks so quickly with Max B finding the net almost instantly. That proved to be as good as it got for Mossley, though. For long periods they were pushed back towards their own goal and struggled to make any in-roads into Netherley's defence. To the boys' credit they battled hard and played in a competitive spirit, but it just wasn't to be their day. Unlucky, lads. Pick yourself up for next week. Sunday 20th September, 2009 Kingsley United 1-4 Team Oasis Coming off the back of two victories, you could see the confidence oozing from the boys from the beginning. This was to be by far their best performance of the season to date. After only a few minutes Team Oasis had taken the lead. Charlie Jolly managed to get on the end of a loose ball to the left of goal, held off his man, before poking home into the far corner giving the 'keeper no chance at all. As the boys at the back and midfield battled away, Matty was causing Kingsley's defence all sorts of problems and he gave the team a two-goal cushion after reaching a through-ball down the middle before rounding the goalie and tapping home. Matty went on to make it three just after half-time following a quick-corner routine with the ball sailing over everybody's head and into the far top corner of the net. The team continued to work hard and play some incisive football before Louis knocked in number four from a ball across the face of goal. Kingsley managed to score a consolation effort towards the end, but it couldn't dent an impressive display from Team Oasis. Well done, and great result. Sunday 20th September, 2009 Woolton Wolves 1-2 Oasis Right from the off you could tell the boys were up for it and should have took the lead within the first few moments. Somehow, though, Lucas and David between them were unable to poke the ball home after a mini-scramble. Chance after chance followed, and it began to feel as if we were never going to score. Then, disaster. A lapse in concentration allowed Woolton to get in behind the defence, leaving Christian with no chance from the following shot. To the boys' credit, the goal just seemed to spur them on and, once again, chance after chance was created and it was a just a matter of time before their dominance was rewarded with a goal. That goal finally arrived shortly before half-time following great work near the by-line, resulting in Lucas prodding the ball home high inside the near post. Into the second period, and again, it was all Oasis putting the pressure on searching for that second goal. Midway through the half, the moment came for birthday boy Harrison. A flowing move down the left-hand side was finished off by Harrison, who struck inside the near post with his right foot. The boys held on comfortably and the margin of victory should have been more, but it was a brilliant performance on a small pitch. Excellent, boys. Saturday 19th September, 2009 Mossley Hill 1-1 Woolton Wolves The phrase 'a game of two halves' springs to mind after this encounter. The hill had a big part to play in this fixture as both sides dominated a half each when they were shooting downhill. The first-half saw Woolton pin Mossley back and managed to grab a goal shortly before the break. Mossley did have their chances, though, which gave them heart going into the interval. It was pretty much all Mossley after the break and, after Ellio had brilliantly swivelled and hit the equaliser, should have gone on to secure victory. Mossley had two or three great chances to snatch a win but it just wasn't to be, but a good result nevertheless. Unlucky, but well played. Saturday 19th September, 2009 Mossley Hill Athletic 7-0 Team Oasis A thoroughly convincing display and result saw Mossley rattle in seven goals. Surprisingly, it was only one at half-time after Team Oasis had given a good account of themselves and pushed our boys really hard. It was a different story in the second-half as the boys used the hill to their advantage and scored the goals their superiority deserved. Lucas bagged himself another hat-trick with the other goals coming from Ellis, James, Jared and Ben. The pick of the goals came from Jared and Ben, as both efforts were sent sailing over the 'keeper's head from distance. Well played, boys. Keep it going. Sunday 13th September, 2009 Woolton Sharks 0-1 Team Oasis Horrid game. Yet enjoyable, somehow. This was a case of knuckling down and defending. Due to the small, narrow pitch...on a slope, there wasn't much of a chance to play football. Countless throw-ins and corners were repelled by some dogged and brave defending before, and after, a moment of pure quality from the undoubted hero of the match, Joe Cunningham. Not only did he secure the win with a thunderbolt from distance, he cleared ball after ball after ball. He, of course, had a little help from others around him as the entire team put in a good shift to ensure they didn't concede a goal from the many aerial balls sent into their box. Thomas, again, performed brilliantly not allowing any of the dangerous crosses to creep in despite a sea of bodies in his way. Excellent attitude and result. Sunday 13th September, 2009 Dunlops Cubs 0-7 Oasis Following a slow start last week, we saw the complete opposite this time. Almost immediately Harrison sent Lucas bearing down on goal and, the form Lucas is currently in, he was never going to miss. Lucas added a header from a corner combined with a goal for Harrison sent the team into half-time leading 3-0 and looking very comfortable, as proven by the improved quality of passing. The second-half saw four more goals fly in, but it could have been even more only for the Dunlops 'keeper preventing a cricket score. Harrison completed a brace, an own goal that Ellis 'attempted' to claim and a further two for red-hot Lucas - the final goal coming from a great cross courtesy of brother Ben. Two games and no goals conceded with the goals flowing. Let's keep it up. Saturday 12th September, 2009 Woolton Vikings 0-8 Mossley Hill Athletic The Mossley boys never had to get out of first gear as they stuck eight past Woolton. In a match which saw chances aplenty created, it was Lucas who helped himself to a bagful, five to be precise, with the opponents quite simply unable to handle his brute force and pace. David also helped himself to a couple of goals, with Ellis adding a single goal to the final tally. Well done everyone. Saturday 12th September, 2009 Alder Lions 0-3 Mossley Hill After a sluggish start to the match, the boys began to find their feet and made the breakthrough via a poked shot by Matty. It was soon 2-0 courtesy of a direct free-kick from Ellio. The second-half proved to be more comfortable despite only adding one more goal. The third and final goal came from Cooper, who struck a daisy-cutter which struck a post before nestling into the back of the net. There were a few nervy moments at the back, but Coach and Harry dealt with pretty much everything that came their way. Excellent result, boys. Sunday 6th September, 2009 Recs Roby 1-2 Team Oasis It was late...it was very late, but eventually it came. After 39 minutes of all-action, end-to-end football, the match was heading for a draw. That was until Matty popped up, with barely seconds to go, to unleash a shot high into the net leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. Up until then, the game had almost everything. Thomas managed to superbly save a penalty in the first-half, Charlie had a shot cleared from under the crossbar late on, countless shots saved at either end - a thoroughly enjoyable game to watch. Recs Roby had taken the lead early on following a corner which they managed to divert in. The boys responded, though, with Joe going close twice from distance and then finally forcing a goal, an own goal at that, from a Max B corner. From that point on, it was anyone's game to win but the boys stuck at it, fought hard, and managed to win it at the death. Special mentions to Harry and Coach who defended excellently throughout. Well done everyone. Sunday 6th September, 2009 Oasis 7-0 Warner Vale Just the kind of start we were hoping for - a convincing win and a good performance. It was a little slow to begin with, as Warner had us pinned back early on but the boys soon found their feet and began to create openings. After striking a post and a couple of near-misses, we finally took the lead through Harrison who managed to squeeze a shot into the net after the 'keeper failed to hold onto a shot. It was soon two, as Lucas headed in a lofted cross from Ben. Coming in at half-time saw the lead at 3-0 via a corner which saw Ellis force the ball in. After the break it was comfortable and, in the end, the boys added a further four goals - Lucas bagging another three and a fierce effort from James - with the boys at the back (Ben, Jared and Christian in goal) rarely troubled. But they won't mind, as it's a clean sheet racked up. Special mentions must go to Lewis Bolton and David for working tirelessly and creating opportunities for their teammates. Well done, boys.

WELSH INTERNATIONAL

10th-13th April 2009, Prestatyn, Wales
Not only did we play magnificent football all weekend, but we were also scoring goals and winning games in style. The football, however, wasn't the only pleasing part of a great trip, where parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters all got along in a major way and enjoyed themselves. It is so encouraging looking ahead to the future where we'll do many more of these tours...
Another new adventure for Mossley Hill U8s saw fourteen players and families travel to Prestatyn, North Wales to play in our first international competition. We entered two teams in the Welsh International Festival of Football, and those two Mossley teams were the two teams who contested the final. Both teams won every game they played except for the games between each other, and were both deserved winners.

TOURNAMENTS - SUMMER 2009
Mossley Hill Tournament - Bank Holiday Monday, 31st August 2009, Mossley Hill A near-perfect day for Mossley Hill was enjoyed on Monday - we had the sun beaming down on us, played some glorious football and managed to come away with the top prize - the only down point was one of the two teams had to lose in an agonising penalty shoot-out in sudden death after they had treated us to a fantastic spectacle in a dramatic semi-final. It was Mossley Hill Athletic who emerged victorious from the tense shoot-out, who then took revenge on Betley Blues in the final after opening the tournament with a 0-2 defeat to the same team. A spirited and determined performance saw Mossley Hill open the scoring early on through Max Brame with a scorcher into the top corner from distance. The boys at the back, Coach in particular, and Thomas in goal ensured there was no way through for Betley and a goal on the counter-attack, again from Max B, sealed the win and secured the cup for Mossley Hill Athletic. They had been pushed hard by a good side but just had enough left in the tank after a tough semi-final. Congratulations, boys! Can't finish without mentioning the Mossley Hill side who displayed some outstanding football and brilliant goals throughout their passage to the semi-finals. They exited the tournament without conceding a single goal which demonstrates how dominant and strong they were until they faced their mates at the second-to-last hurdle. Unlucky, boys, but you provided us with some great entertainment.
