MATCH REPORTS
GAME 19
MOSSLEYHILL 4 V 1 BLACKPOOL
The last game of the season and if we win or draw today the double is no longer a dream but a fact.
Blackpool are a good footballing side and put Mossley on the back foot by scoring an early goal, most teams would be panicking but as always through the years one of our biggest strengths is the girls never give up and played the game of their life.
With time on their side Mossley settled down to start to dominaite all over the pitch, this payed off with Megan Brodie (who else ) latching on to a great through ball to make it 1-1. and just before half time and after lots of pressure Meg turned her marker in the box and scored a screamer in the top corner of Blackpools net.
The second half was Mossley at their best, you could see that every player could see the double in sight and with every pass, tackle ,header they grew stronger and stronger. Blackpool still came on strong but with a fantastic defence now winning every thing this allowed the midfeild to supply some killer balls to the front players, and thats when Meg Brodie scored her 3rd goal to round off a great performance.you think its all over,With a pinpoint corner from Hannah Lundberg in the last minuets of the game was met on the volly by SOPHIE PERRY ,scoring her first goal of the season, what timing, all over' it is now.
Absolutely unbelievable performance by every player not just today that you won the double but its been your hard work in every training session that has made you Lancashire league and cup double winners in a league were you play the best from a county not a postcode you have performed to unbelievable standards. Your a credit to the club, the county your parents and more so to your selves, I'm proud of every one in the team, individuals can turn a game but with out every player playing their part great achivments like this will never happen. UNBEATEN as well what a way to become CHAMPIONS.
GAME 18
MOSSLEYHILL 1 V 0 FEDS
As part of our big league game preparation this was the teams 2nd game in 4 days.
Liverpool feds gave a good solid performace and moved the ball well it was a great attacking move that saw Megan Brodie score the winner (is Meg in a scoring mood or what lets see against Blackpool in 4 days time )
GAME 17
MOSSLEYHILL 2 V 0 WAPA (FINLAND )
On a day more suitable for the other team, Mossley showed thats why they train in all sorts of weather.
The Fins were very strong and played good football, being u/16s they give the team another challenge.
Meg Brodie opened the scoring just before half time.
A good solid performance by the team made it hard work for the visitors,Meg poped up with the winner after some great movement left their defence standing.
GAME 16
Bolton 0 V 1 MOSSLEYHILL
With just 2 games left every player knew they all had to play their part today and thats what they did. Bolton made Mossley work for the result from the first whistle, Mossley with a few players not available where organised and played some good attacking football but to Boltons credit especially their keeper who had a superb game, Mossley couldnt finish this game off. The second half saw Mossley dominate the game and some quick thinking by Hannah Lundberg and Megan Brodie from a Mossley throw in deep in Boltons half let Hannah deliver a superb ball that was met on the edge of Boltons area by Leigh Neill whos volley was unstopable and gave Mossley their well deserved goal. Mossley should have made it 2 or 3 but it was not meant to be and even Sophie Perrys excellent was denied by Boltons crossbar plus Alice Bowdens hit a 25 yard rocket that looked a certain goal but Boltons keeper made yet another excellent save. Still unbeaten in the league and a true gutsey performance that shows were these girls deserve to be TOP.
GAME 15
Ladybridge (Bolton) 1 V 3 MOSSLEYHILL
With only a few games left every point will count and todays game was no exception,Mossley started very strong and our attacking wing play was exceptional.
Hannah Lundberg opened the scoring with a fantastic run taking on the Ladybridge defence and leaving them standing and finnishing with style at the near post. Sophie Perry along with the rest of the back line showed great attacking qualities with setting up some excellent passes that had Ladybridge on their back foot for most of the game.It was one of these such moves from the back that gave Kaisha Sohl a chance to push forward and hit a shot that the keeper could not handle, 2 - 0 at half time and we looked in control, but to Ladybridges credit they got every player behind the ball and frustraited Mossley for most of the game.
Ladybride hit Mossley on the break and for once the back line was court sleeping and let them pull a goal back. Mossley continued to pile on the pressure and a corner that was met by Jenny Sullivan rocketed into the net, a great goal and another win for a never say die team, keeping the double in sight.
MOSSEYHILL 1 V 2 EASTERN FC (N.Y. U.S.A.)
With no game this week we needed a tough game so we can keep focused for the league games coming up.
We were lucky to get a game against a team from New york over here touring,Eastern f.c. gave us a game that we needed and to show us that we all still need to be inproving our game all the time.
The visitors were strong and fit and they pressured Mossley from the start, playing some good soccer!
Eastern went ahead before half time Mossley came out strong in the second half and Meg Brodie pulled a goal back to show the visitors they can play just as good as them. Even though Mossley continued to pile on the pressure ,a mix up at the back gifted the New york team a winning goal. We new we could have played better but thats football, now lets get back to winning ways in the league.
GAME 14
MOSSLEYHILL 3 V 2 PRESTON N. E. mossley new that in this league every game is like a cup final, and todays game was another test for the girls. Preston were up for this game and were very strong all over the pitch ,it was well into the first half before Mossleys pressure payed off when Lou Gardner scored from a corner.
After lots of pressure from a determined Preston team, they equalized ,early in the second half then they went in front when we didn't close down quickly enough. With 20 mins still to play Mossley did what they do best ,they didnt panic and the team responded with some outstanding counter attacking play. It was Amy Cooper who drew level after so many chances the continued pressure was too much for Preston to cope with. Now at 2-2 both teams still played in a way that they both wanted to win. With less than 10 mins to go Megan Brodie was causing their defence lots of problems , on one of her runs she was fouled about 25 yards out. If you needed a perfect free kick now was the time,(commith the hour ,ect) Hannah Lundberg hit a fantastic match winning free kick ,What a way to win. An Out standing performance by a team who in Prestons managers words have set a fantastic standard in this league.
3 points and still unbeaten. SUPERB.
LANCASHIRE U/15s CUP FINAL
MOSSLEYHILL 4 V 0 BOLTON WANDERERS
At a venue fit for a cup final and everyone expecting a great game ,this team yet again did not dissapoint.
With a fantastic supporting crowd the girls did themselves and the club proud.
Mossley went ahead after some quick wing play by Hannah Lundberg, released Meg Brodie down the wing to deliver a killer ball to the back post for Leigh Neill to head home a well taken opener.
Mossley attacking play was to much for Bolton to cope with, with Amber Simms, Alice Bowden, and leigh, and Holly parkinson controling the midfeild, they soon put a perfect pass into Amy cooper, who caused the Bolton defence problems all game, Amys touch put her through on goal and she finnished superbly. With Hannah Young, AND Hannah L, keeping the wings busy, it was the killer 3rd goal that was to much for Bolton,Amys pass to the far post was put in by Mossleys Meg Brodie, who along with Hannah Lundberg was playing in their 25th final in all comps, amazing girls.
The second half Bolton to their credit played good football and pressured the Mossley defence ,but with Kaisha Solh, Aimee Campbell, Sophie Perry and keeper Steph goudie playing so stong ,controled and organized (you were amazing girls) there was no way through for Bolton. With Meg scoring her 2nd and Mossleys 4th, the cup was ours, With emily Powell,Steph Rodreguiz,Jenny Sullivan and Lou Gardner all contribuiting to a fantastic team performance . Yet another medel and cup for an amazing group of dedicaited and profesional footballers any manager, club and parent would be very proud of. Thanks to everyone who supported the girls on what was a great night for girls football at Mossleyhill. plus the girls and myself wish to thank EMILY JACKSON for her messages of support ,the cup and medel are waiting for you.AMAZING GIRLS AMAZING.
MOSSLEYHILL 2 V 0 LAMMACK
Everyone was expecting a great top of the league game, and everyone who was there was not dissapointed. A game Mossley needed to win to stay top and a game lammack had to win to close the gap.Mossley and Lammack both started well with good football being played by both teams, with lots of crunching tackles going in by both teams. With Meg Brodie sick it was time for Emily Powell to partner Amy up front, and what a game she had, scoring a well taken goal after losing her marker in the area. At 1 - 0 at half time ,Lammack put Mossley under a lot of pressure but with the team so strong and organized Lammack just couldn't break Mossley down.
With Kashia Solh having an outstanding game we needed to put Lammack under more pressure, and it payed off with Emily Powell scoring her and Mossleys 2nd with a great half volly to give this team the win they deserved to stay unbeaten and top. A fantastic performance by every player , well done girls you were excellent. (G.o.t.m. - Emily Powell -Kashia Solh )
GAME 11
MOSSLEYHILL 7 V 0 WIGAN ATHLETIC
On a muddy pitch you would have expected a typical 'lets just kick the ball type of game' but Mossley played with such flair they left Wigan standing. With Mossley playing so organized they were in control from start to finnish,Megan Brodie started the scoring after 10 minuets with a well crafted goal, with Leigh Neil playing up front the 2 strikers were carving their way through the Wigan defence, with Hannah Young and Hannah Lundberg providing quality down the wings,Meg popped up with her 2nd goal quickly followed by Leigh Neil who took he goal well.with Mossleys continued pressure it was number 4 before half time yet again through Leigh Neil after some great defending and excellent support from midfield . The second half saw Mossley continue to dominate and the defence as solid as ever with Kashia taking the place of the absent AimeeCampbell, she was superb in this pivotol roll which allowed the midfield to push up even more and with the passing as crisp as can be it wasen't long before Steph Rodriguez hit a cracking shot that made it 5-0. With the 3 points in the bag our possesion play was out standing,Steph scored 2 more to round of an excellent hatrick and superb team performance from the whole squad, what can you say girls you are fantastic in training with a wonderfull attituide that you take onto the pitch, you deserve to be were you are top and in a cup final.
GAME 10
MOSSLEYHILL 4 V 0 MANCHESTER CITY
Today was definaitly a game of two halfs, with Man city putting a lot of pressure on the Mossley goal ,hitting the cross bar and you know your under pressure when Megan Brodie has to clear of the line.Mossley had their chances in the first half as well but did'nt take them.
The second half was a different matter with Mossley dominating the play and scoring a great goal after Speedie Hannah young flew down the wing beating two city players to deliver a wonderful ball into the box for Megan Brodie to tap in.The changes we made before the break were soon paying off again with much sharper passing that city could not handle saw Jenny Sullivan pounce to make it 2 - 0 within 15 minutes of the re-start .Mossleys possesion play was more evident all over the pitch ,and an excellent ball let in Steph Rodregeuz to give the home team a 3 goal advantage. To round off an excellent second half team display Megan Brodie scored her 2nd and Mossleys 4th to give the girls the win the last 40 minutes deserved, still top and unbeated, well done girls, keep focused and don't let your high standards drop.
GAME 9
Lancashire cup semi-final
MOSSLEYHILL 8 V 1 PRESTON N. E
With Preston already postponing this fixture once,we knew they would want to be prepared for this semi, but there is no way they were prepared for what was about to happen on this cold and windy aternoon at Mossley. With Mossley putting pressure on the Preston goal from the whistle, then a fantastic run down the wing from Hannah young who supplied the perfect cross for Megan Brodie to put away ,with Preston surviving numerous shots on goal, they went and scored an equalizer, but a great goal from Hannah Young let Mossley go in 2-1 up at half time. The second half started with Mossley dominating the play but this time our finnishing was leathal.Steph Rodriguez ,Amy Cooper ,Hannah Youngs 2nd,and an excellent curling shot from Amber Simms saw Mossley brush Preston aside in a devastating 15 minutes of Mossley magic. Now 6-1 and Preston totally blown away, there was stil more to come.Mossley looked confident on the ball all over the pitch, and with cap't Hannah Lundberg making it 7-1 with a screamer of a free kick 25 yards out,and then Amy cooper scoring her 2nd and making it 8-1 at the final whistle sending Preston crashing out of this semi and Mossleyhill crusing to the Lancashire cup final ,it will be only fitting that these girls will be playing at the county ground stadium. unbeleaverble girls, and a huge congratulations from the chairman and the club on a fantastic achievement .
GAME 8
LAMMACK(BLACKBURN) 2 V 3 MOSSLEYHILL
Lammack away was always going to be tough and it was! It was a physical game from the start ,the 1st half was close with Mossley going ahead through a Steph Rodriguez goal. Then two uncharactertic defending mistakes gifted Lammack the lead.Mossley knew they had to raise their game and they did, with the midfield now in control via Holly,Lou and Leigh, the pressure payed off with a goal by the ever willing Hannah Young to equalize. Meg Brodie released a fantastic shot but the cross bar denied Mossey again ,after some wonderfull attacking play Hannah Lundberg put a ball into the box that should have been tapped in to win the game, it had a feeling of it's not going to be our day. Until a lovely piece of combination play saw Leigh Niell througth on goal only to be fouled in the box and the ref had no option but to give a penalty that was put away superbly by Megan Brodie .A hard won and well deserved 3 point's to a team with a great never-say-die attitude. Still Top
and unbeaten ,well done for a great team display. Today was also a test of character for Hannah Lundberg and Aimee Cambell who played a true gutsy performance dispite only a few days earlier losing their close friend SAM POWER who sadly passed away on Thursday, the whole team pulled together for them today, and our thoughts are with Sam's family and friends at this very sad time.
R.I.P. SAM
GAME 7
MOSSLEYHILL 7 V 0 LADYBRIDGE (BOLTON)
After last weeks warm-up v Australian team, we started this this match with confidence and belief ozzing out of every player,Ladybridge coming to Mossley on the back of a good win at Man city were full of confidence as well.
Mossleys passing and team movement was to much for ladybridge from the start, with Jenny Sullivan scoring after just 12 minutes, then a wonderfull cross into the box was met with a fantastic header from cap't Hannah lundberg to make it 2-0. With Kashia Sohl being allowed more freedom with the excellent cover work by Sophie,Alice and the ever reliable Aimee Campbell,it was'nt long before it payed off with Kashia scoring a screamer and then followig that up with a wonderfull free kick, now 4-0 after 35 minutes. With Megan Brodie playing wide and suppling some excellent passes, Mossleys attackers had plenty to work with.Steph Rodreguez came on and was quickly put through on goal by Meg and Steph finnished well. The 2nd half saw a change again in our formation putting even more pressure on this Bolton team, after some patient build up play ,Amy cooper latched onto a lovely through ball and made it 6-0.
Ladybridge kep't going hitting Mossleys bar on one occasion Hannah Lundberg still running the visitors ragged, set up Meg for her customary goal to end an excellent display by a team who have the ability to play some breathtaking football all over the pitch .Well done girls espeially a clean sheet in this league QUALITY !
FRIENDLY
MOSSLEYHILL 10 V 1 AUSTRALIAN U/16 REP SQUAD
To keep Mossleys players playing in the mannor and style that has continued to impress not only those involved with the team ,but a lot of possitive comments from any one watching,we arranged a game against an Australian u/16 rep team who were over touring.
We had a few players unavailable so with 12 players we knew our fitness would be tested. Mossley started well and put into practise what they had learned on the training ground.
Megan Brodie scored a well taken goal after some wonderfull team play that the visitors could not handle.Even going in at half time 7-0 up we knew there was more to come.Australia pulled a goal back,(even when the pass was offside- dodgy ref) we still stayed in control and with goals from leigh,Holly,Kashia,as well as Meg the team played well in every part of the pitch. As the Australian coach said we were fitter and tactically, technically way ahead of them.well done to the whole team you did yourselves proud.
GAME 6
MOSSLEYHILL 4 V 1 BOLTON WANDERERS
Playing at home is always nice, but 3 points as well is even nicer.
The first half was very close,Bolton had come to put players behind the ball and shut up shop, and no matter what Mossley did, even when it was harder to miss than score ,it remained 0-0 at half time.
Changes had to be made as well as tactics, this saw Mossley push Leigh Neill (G.O.T.M.) up to support Meg and a few changes in midfield ,the results were devastating for Bolton ,as strong build up play saw Leigh set up Megan Brodie who finnished well. It wasen't long before some excellent movement from the back via Kashia Sohl and a lovley through ball from Leigh finnished superbly from Hannah Young saw Mossley take control of this tough game .Yet again Bolton pushed forward but with Mossleys defence solid it was soon turned into an excellent counter attack which saw Leigh yet again set up Megan for her 2nd and Mossleys 3rd,Bolton continued to press and play good football, but they could'nt clear a Mossley corner and (you guessed it ) Leigh Neill scored a well deserved goal, now at 4-0 up you must give Bolton credit as they pushed up again winning a penalty. 3 more points, excellet football, top of the league, what next, only Preston north end, in the semi-final of the cup, well done girls, now the hard work beginns.
GAME 5
BLACKPOOL FC 2 V 3 MOSSLEYHLL
We knew todays game would be a test for the team but it enderd up a test for everyone.Blackpool had a number of big girls on the pitch compared to Mossley but it was Mossley who went ahead after some excellent link up play to put Megan Brodie through to score her first.Blackpool leveled and it was game on . Mossley showed why they are joint top by some excellent and at times gutsy football when Hannah young scored a beauty of a goal to put us in the driving seat. After a unsavoury incident ,both teams battled for the ball in every position. Blackpool got the better of our defence and levelled,Mossley did'nt take long to stop their fans chairing as a great moveby the team saw Lou Gardner deliver the pass of the match to set Megan Brodie up for her 2nd and Mossleys 3rd with a fantastic goal .
A fantastic result and superb work rate from every player proved to be the winner on the day.Remember to win is a great feeling, but to win fairly and with dignity shows you are a true winner in every aspect.
Fantastic girls great result.
GAME 4
MOSSLEYHILL 2 V 2 PRESTON NORTH END
Our first home game and what a game,a top of the league clash that did not disapoint. The girls loved playing on their home pitch not a field, coming out of their own changing rooms, all added to the game. Thanks Arthur you were right the Lancashire league is the right place to keep developing this team for theirs and the clubs future, yes it will be tough but when you play the best players from a whole county not a post code you always have a game on your hands.
PNE started strong and we had to defend well but a quality header from a corner put PNE 1-0 up, Mossley started to put PNE under alot of pressure with Leigh Niell and Kaisha Sohl coming close,it was Megan Bodie(mom1)
who's sweet footwork proved to much and gave Mossley their equalizer. with Mossley having most of the possesion,it was a quick break from PNE that saw them take the lead again, with chances from Holly ,Jenny and great work rate from Hannah Young(mom2) it was Megan Brodie who shrugged off two defenders even though she was injured to score her second goal and give her team a well earned draw ,well done girls and as the Preston manager said what a excellent example of what high standards these two teams can play at.
GAME 3 (CUP GAME)
LAMMACK (BLACKBURN) 1 V MOSSLEYHILL 4
This game was mossleys 3rd away game in a row,and Lammacks pitch was the best we have ever seen or played on a credit to them.
Mossley started strong but Lammack showed they play to as high a standard as this Mossley team. Hannah young (m.o.m) was fast and exciting down the wing, and she scored a great goal to put Mossley ahead. Lammack upped the pressure which resulted in a scrappy goal for them, but all goals count.Mossleys passing and movement on this excellent surface proved too much for Lammack with Hannah young scoring her and Mossleys 2nd.
The second half was Mossley at their best, excellent team work and support all over the pitch ,after a great attacking move Amber Simms found her self one on one with the keeper after the ref played advantage after a hand ball with Amber scoring with great composure. The game was won and the next round secured when Hannah Lundberg delivered a wonder pass that picked out Megan Brodie at the back post ,who finnished calmly, a fantastic team performance, well done to every player for giving 100% in every position.
GAME 2
WIGAN ATHLETIC 2 V MOSSLEYHILL 4
Another tuff away game for the team, a few players missing ,but with a team were every player can play ,they performed fantastic in every position.
Wigan didn't have to wait long to see some exciting and skillfull football, with some fast link up play releasing Steph Rodriguez down the wing, Steph scored confidently, with some great foreward movement that Wigan could'nt cope with ,Steph added her 2nd followed by a wonder goal from Megan Brodie, who's work rate like the rest of the team was fantastic ,it all proved to much for Wigan and Meg scored her 2nd goal,Mossleys 4th.Jenny,Emily & Hannah Lundberg all came close to adding to our score but wigan showed they are just as committed and punished some sloppy play by scoring 2 goals.
Leigh Neill (refs m.o.m.) was dominating in her midfield roll, along side Holly Parkinson & Lou Gardner, with some safe keeping from Steph and excellent defending by the whole back line, proved the team spirit alone deserved the 3 points.
GAME 1
MANCHESTER CITY 2 V MOSSLEYHILL 4
If justifacation was needed about our move to the Lancashire league, today had the answers.
Manchester city away for your first game,we needed to be ready and we were, the double training sessions payed off, with Mossley taking the game to city from the start. Some superb link up play all over the pitch with Steph Rodreguez terrorizing city every time she had the ball down the wing, this paying off as Steph scored 2 great goals one of them a screamer from 18 yards. After a few changes Amy Cooper made it 3-0 before half time. After some excellent movement Amber Simms made it 4-0 and we looked very confident, too confident as our concentration lapsed and City punished us with 2 quick goals. Mossley soon regrouped and played as a strong unit, making chances and nearly scoring a few more, Hannah Lundberg (refs m.o.m.) hit the cross bar from a free kick, and Meg, Emily also coming close. Every player played their part making sure Mossley got the 3 points they deserved.
FANTASTIC GIRLS- now for Wigan athletic.
Mossley u/15s with Graham Keeley,FA regional coaching development manager.
Who had come to do a special session with the girls after hearing so much about them,he said the girls went through a difficult training session as if they were pro fooballers and are an immense credit to themselves and the club.
