MATCH REPORTS Saturday 26th April MOSSLEY HILL 3 V Westtmoor 3 Goal Scorers: Girl of Match:Catherine Club Player: Meg WEDNESDAY 16th APRIL CUP FINAL MOSSLEY HILL 2 V Wavertree 2 MOSSLEY WIN 4-2 ON PENALTIES. A truley dramatic game that had everything from quality defending to exceptional pieces of individual skill all bound together with a brilliant team work ethic that would not wilt even when we fell 2 goals behind. A truely brilliant result for us that was fully deserved. With wavertree winning the toss and kicking with the wind behind them it was always going to be a very difficult first half but we defended with quality and had a couple of breakaway chances that could have relieved the pressure. We went into the break even with out either side creating many chances. With the wind now to our advantage we thought that we had every chance of a great result but two quick goals from the opposition against the run of play in the second half left the team stunned but all importantly not beaten. A penalty decision that was quite simply awful and a scrappy goal would have beaten most teams apart from ours. We hit back after some lovely passes through Amy hitting a rocket shot leaving their keeper no chance. The Wavertree side looked shocked and Mossley now had their backs up, with the pressure relentless Amy was brought down outside the box and a top drawer free kick from Kate hit the top corner of the net and everything was now all square. The team as a whole worked very hard with the forwards running to a standstill , and the midfield also exhausted alongside a defence that did not put a foot wrong the whole game. The extra time went too quickly for us as we had the better pressure and we then had to pick ourselves up for penalties. The penalties were a tense affair with those who chose accuracy against power coming out on top on both sides. Holly was brilliant and saved two penalties to give us a great chance to win. Becca took the last penalty and I was the most confident person on the pitch as Becca chose accuracy to place the ball beyond the keeper. Get in their you beauty! Goal Scorers: Amy & Kate Penalty Takers: Kate, Amy, Sam, Hannah & Girl of Match: Team, too many top performances to pick out 2 Saturday 5th April Mossley 4 V Thingwall 1 (CUP & League Double) Goal Scorers: Becca 2, Connie & Hannah Girl of Match Alex Club player Hannah Saturday 29th March MOSSLEY 2 V Wavertree 1 A quick goal not 10 seconds from the start may have finished off many teams in what we knew would be a tight game. It was not the start we wanted but we worked tirelessly and got a goal back from an excellent free kick from Kate that went passed an un sighted keeper. There was still a physical battle to be won as we know we are superior in the football department . Eventually Becca took a half chance that was chipped over the keeper after some excellent movement. The half time whistle went and we then had to play against a wind that had inevitably got up during the break. It was quite simply a marvelous defensive performance that everyone in the team can be proud of. Holly was outstanding with he rest of the defence all excellent. Defensively it was the best the team have played all season with Wavertree chances severly limited. The midfied worked tirelessly against a brutal wind and a physical wavertree but stuck with it to eventually come out on top. Hannah gave a superb performance with a clinical display of finishing with placed balls devastating the opposition. sams opening goal from long range was another notable moment in a game that was over at half time. The easier games are shortly coming to an end and we need to be firing on all cylinders to pull of some results thst the girls are capable of.A big thanks to Vicky who played dispite being sick the type of commitment we should all try to achieve. The defence kept there concentration and secured a lock out from a handy Bleakhill attack. The pitch was kind to our opponents in that it seemed to slow the pace of the game and ruined many of our attacks. Becca was in fine form and scored four with Connie and Amy helping with one each. One lesson to be learnt from this game is that the ball seems to bobble about in our opponents area and we need to compete especially to get first to the ball. All things beingh considered it was a good start to the second half of the season on a very poor playing surface. Goalscorers Becca 4, Amy 1, Connie 1. Girl of Match: Catherine Club PLayer: Alex Saturday 3rd November MOSSLEY 13 V CORINTHIANS 0 A good solid performance from the team resulted in a trade of goals. It was pleasing to see some of the hardwork the team has been putting in on the training field paying off in our goal tally. We have to make sure we give all opponents respect even when participating in a one sided game and it is pleasing to say the team did exactly that. We have improved on our finishing which I am sure will do us no harm at all when we're playing the top teams. We are enjoying a good run of form and with a little hard work we will climb the league. It was nice to see Connie and Issy scoring hatricks with the standard of finishing greatly improved overall. Then half time came and we tended to settle for our lead. The second half seamed to go a little better and was marked by two well taken goals by Becky. The team cruised to victory at a canter and really did not seem to get out of first gear.that being said You can only win what is in front of you and it was nice to get a clean sheet. Player of Match: Connie Club Player: Vicky Scorers: Becky 2, Connie, Rowan & Hannah Saturday 13th October MOSSLEY 0 v FEDS 4 After the respective starts of the season from the two teams we expected a tough game against the Feds, but on the actual gameplay we were pleasantly surprised . We gave as good as we got for most of the game with Hannah and Connie causing problems for their defence , In the end it was their ability to support attack and defence from midfield which gave them the edge. We were very unfortunate to have a fantastic direct free kick from Kate ruled offside although it would only have been a consolation as we were already four down. Player of Match : Rowan Club Player : Catherine Saturday 6th October MOSSLEY 3 v WESTMOOR 2 A thourghly deserved victory was gained by a team effort that was brilliant at times e.g the build up and execution of Rowans goal to ordinary in that no one challenged for the last westmoor corner that could have thrown away a hard earned victory. The defence was again solid with the midfield edgeing westmoors commited midfield with both determination and quality passes which provided Kate and Amy with the ammunition to score. We have had a solid start to the season and we now have to work hard in training to compete against the physical teams. Movement off the ball and easy passes will start our climb up the league. Goal scorers Rowan Kate Amy Player of the Match: Rowan Club Player: Kate Saturday 29th September MOSSLEY 0 v WAVERTREE LADIES 3 We gave our opponents far too much respect in this game especially in the first half and it wasnt until the second half when the game was lost that we started to perform. Player of Match : Meg Club Player : Ashley Saturday 22nd September MOSSLEY 0 v TRANMERE 5 This was a learning curve for the girls who have come up from mini soccer especially the ones who are not use to getting beat never mind by such a scoreline. If the girls continue to defend for the rest of the season as they did in the first half they will win more games than they lose , but the fact that the new format and bigger pitch took its toll , the girls tired considerably which accounted for them conceding 4 goals in the second half. Player of Match : Hannah Club Player: Kate Saturday 8th September MOSSLEY HILL 4 V THINGWALL 1 For ten of the girls involved in this game this was the first time they had played 11 a side and the pitch was double the size they were used to adding to this it was only cut a few days before , you would never of guessed ! The first half was more than we could of wished for and goals from Vicky and Connie gave us a commanding lead and if Hannah had a bit more luck we would of been out of sight at half time. Goals from Sammy and second from Connie cemented a fine win and the fact that the goalie was their star player says alot about our girls performance, As the game drew to a close the girls understandably tired and Thingwall created a few chances of their own and scored a good conselation goal .
