Match Reports 2009/10
Week 1 - 19/09/09
St Annes Rovers 3-0 Mossley Athletic
We went into this game intending to improve on certain aspects of our game, which in the end I felt we did. Our passing was better, as well as the closing down, but both areas still need some work. The first half was great to watch, both sides were well matched. St Annes attacked us a lot, but I felt our defence and especially Terry in goal (Well done) coped well. We had some decent attacks in the first half, with megs flying down the wing on a couple of occasions causing them problems. The second half, it was plain to see that we were getting tired, and when we went a goal down, our heads seemed to drop too. However, one thing we can say about our girls is that we never give up. We kept fighting and trying to play. There are a few things we need to improve on but as a team our improvement was great. Special mention to Chanel and Court at the back, who i thought were great today. Chanel thoroughly deserved the Player of the Match award she picked up today.
Can I also give a mention to the ref, who i thought was great with the girls today.
Week 2 - 26/09/09
Mossley Athletic 0-5 North Park United
We went into the game today lacking in confidence from our defeat last week. The first 15 minutes, we played well, creating chances and putting the North Park defence under pressure. However an unfortunate penalty was given away, and we went a goal down. In typical fashion, we switched off straight after and went on to concede another two goals before half time. We went out after half time knowing we needed to put a performance in, and tried to push for a goal, which unfortunately didnt come (it will do girls, keep trying) we had some good efforts, with tempany nearly scoring from a rocket volley from a corner.
Today we realised the importance of playing as a team, not individuals. We are learning our lessons the hard way, but will continue to learn and improve.
Can I please add as a note for the parents, that we are all there to support and encourage the girls, and any negative comments to individuals will not be tolerated.
Week 3 - 03/10/09
Mossley Athletic 0-7 The Feds
Today's first half was the best I've seen the girls play all season. We spent most of the first 20 minutes in the feds half, putting pressure on their defence. We passed the ball well, closed down well and the communication was great. Even when a goal went past us we kept working hard. Ambar made a couple of great saves in the first half (Well Done!!) and the back four did well to step out and catch the feds attack out on a couple of occasions. Two more feds goals went in before the half time whistle, which were just well worked goals. We came off at half time having every reason to feel good about our effort, work rate and overall first half performance. The first ten minutes of the second half were pretty much the same, with us working hard to win the ball and trying to play when we did have it. However another goal from the feds seemed to shatter our confidence, and at times we were spectators. We are working hard to improve our game, both in training and on the pitch, but have to take it a few steps at a time. Today's result definately didnt reflect the game, so don't let your heads go down girls, as Michelle said today, be proud of your performances, goals and wins will come. Just stay focused and work hard.
Can i give a special mention to Ambar, who was girl of the game today, in my opinion her performance was great. Most of the goals that were scored today, no one could have done anything about, so well done, you were great. I also thought Shannon had the best game ive seen her play so far, so well done to you too.

Mossley Athletic 3-3 North Park
I am pleased to say that we have started scoring goals in the past two games, with goals from Mary and Jess last week, and now a hat-trick from Hannah this week. Well done girls. We started today's game well, putting constant pressure on the North Park defence, who dealt with us well. We unfortunately went a goal down early on, but I am proud to say that the girls showed character and pulled one back with what has to be goal of the season so far from Hannah (typical Torres finish!!) Hannah went on to torment the North Park defence and got another 2 before half time. The second half was end to end, with both teams creating chances, and North Park were the ones who put them away. For a neutral, it was a great game to watch, with both teams trying to play football as much as they could, and were ultimately evenly matched. A draw was probably a fair result. Hannah walks away with the girl of the game award today, but everyone else on the team worked hard and deserved credit. Well done once again to Ambar who played great even after hurting her thumb before the game. Full marks to the referee who was excellent.
